CERTIFICATIONS & DOCUMENTATION
Trust begins with clarity.
We do not simply display symbols. We explain what a statement means, what it applies to and how it can be substantiated — with precision, restraint and product-specific detail.
Three questions before every statement.
Only when meaning, scope and evidence align does a promise become information that can be understood and checked.
- 01What exactly is being stated?
- 02What does it apply to?
- 03What documentation supports it?
A CLEAR DISTINCTION
Not everything that builds trust is a certification.
We therefore separate four distinct levels. This prevents sweeping claims and makes the real significance of each statement easier to understand.
Product certification
An independent body confirms that a specific formula meets a defined standard.
Manufacturing standard
Documented requirements govern processes such as production, control, storage and shipment.
Legal requirement
Safety assessment, product documentation and notification are prerequisites for placing a cosmetic product on the market.
Product statement
Claims such as “dermatologically tested” or “vegan formula” apply only to the extent supported by evidence.
NATURAL & ORGANIC COSMETICS
COSMOS is the standard. ECOCERT may certify against it.
COSMOS sets the shared criteria for certified natural and organic cosmetics. ECOCERT is an independent certification body authorised by COSMOS to assess and certify products against that standard.
01 · STANDARD
COSMOS
Defines requirements for ingredients, processing, labelling and control.02 · CERTIFICATION BODY
ECOCERT
Acts as an authorised independent body assessing whether the requirements are met.03 · SPECIFIC PRODUCT
NATURAL or ORGANIC
The relevant signature always belongs to the formula that has actually been certified.COSMOS NATURAL
Identifies a natural cosmetic formula certified to the COSMOS standard.
COSMOS ORGANIC
Identifies an organic cosmetic formula certified to additional requirements concerning organic content.
MANUFACTURING & SAFETY
Three levels that should not be confused.
A manufacturing standard, a safety assessment and an EU notification each serve a different purpose. Together, they form a traceable chain of safety and documentation.
-
MANUFACTURING
ISO 22716 · Cosmetics GMP
ISO 22716 provides guidelines for the Good Manufacturing Practices of cosmetic products, including production, control, storage and shipment.
Evidence type: manufacturing and quality documentation -
PRODUCT SAFETY
Safety assessment & product information file
Before a cosmetic formula is placed on the market, it is professionally assessed and recorded in the required product documentation.
Evidence type: product-specific safety and documentation records -
EU NOTIFICATION
CPNP
The Cosmetic Products Notification Portal is the EU’s statutory notification system for cosmetic products. It is not a certification or a quality seal.
Evidence type: regulatory product notification
PRODUCT-SPECIFIC STATEMENTS
What a statement means — and what it does not imply.
The following statements are used only where the relevant evidence is available. Open an item to see its meaning, scope and form of evidence.
01 Dermatologically tested Documented test
- Meaning
- The skin compatibility of the specific formula has been assessed under dermatological supervision.
- Scope
- Applies only where this statement appears on the relevant product page. It does not guarantee that every skin will respond in the same way.
- Evidence type
- Product-specific dermatological test report or corresponding manufacturer documentation.
02 No fragrance allergens requiring declaration Formula and labelling statement
- Meaning
- Selected formulas are designed without fragrance allergens that require separate declaration above the applicable thresholds.
- Scope
- Applies only where stated for the specific product. It does not mean “allergy-free”. The current INCI list remains the definitive reference.
- Evidence type
- Formula and ingredient documentation together with the product-specific INCI list.
03 Vegan formulation Formula statement
- Meaning
- According to the documentation available, the formula contains no ingredients of animal origin.
- Scope
- The statement describes composition. It is not automatically equivalent to an independent vegan certification.
- Evidence type
- Formula, raw-material and manufacturer documentation.
04 No animal testing Principle & regulatory context
- Meaning
- ANTLITZWERK stands for cosmetic products without animal testing and operates within the applicable European requirements.
- Scope
- The statement is not presented as an invented seal. The European legal framework and the manufacturer information available are explained separately.
- Evidence type
- Manufacturer declarations and the relevant European legal framework.
MANUFACTURING PARTNER
MÁDARA Cosmetics · Expertise from Riga.
MÁDARA Cosmetics is an independent Latvian cosmetics manufacturer with its own laboratory and production facility. ANTLITZWERK formulas are manufactured and filled within this documented production environment.
- In-house laboratory
- In-house production in Riga
- Experience in certified natural cosmetics
B Corp — correctly attributed
AS MADARA Cosmetics has been a Certified B Corporation since March 2025. The certification belongs to our manufacturing partner, not to ANTLITZWERK, and is therefore mentioned only in that context.
A partner distinction never replaces product-specific evidence. For each formula, what matters is the information stated on its individual product page.
